February 16-Foggy Regina-town

Dreary. That one word conveys exactly how Regina looked today and how most Reginans felt like.

This shot of 11th Avenue, looking east towards Broad Street shows how foggy it was in town Tuesday. As the evening wore on, the fog became thicker.

I've heard several people here say that 90 days after you get a fog, you will get some type of storm (snow/rain) in the same area. If that's the case, the rain should begin falling in Regina the Tuesday before the May long weekend and continue until just after the Victoria Day holiday.

Come back in May to see if this prediction comes true.

February 15-Night life

When it feels like -28C outside, there isn't a lot of night life. Even the downtown core looks cold and lonely.

Everyone is staying inside Monday night, watching the Olympics. My only company while taking this picture was a small chickadee, who flew off into the trees to keep warm.

February 14-Knox Metropolitan United Church

Built in 1905, the Knox-Met (as it is known in Regina) has been a gathering place for the faithful for over 100 years. It was severely damaged in the 1912 tornado, but was repaired quickly afterwards.

Each Christmas, their choir holds a concert featuring holiday carols which is a delight to both the ears and eyes due to the church's acoustics and the decorating committee's efforts.

February 13-Desserts for Development

I just came back from a fundraiser at the Glen Elm Church of Christ called Desserts for Development. The church was raising funds for two drinking water projects they are sponsoring; one in India and another in Zambia.

Those who attended were treated to three courses of desserts (mostly chocolate) and a lovely jazz trio. In between courses, we were able to bid on silent auction items. I had the winning bid on a Mexican platter which I plan to use tomorrow; I don't think I can look at another sweet dessert. The Turtle Cheesecake nearly did me in!

Janury 12-Regina Cemetery #2

The cemetery is so visually interesting, that I had to go back for a second look. The view above is one of the main roads that splits the cemetary into north and south. The stark trees reminded me of hundred of arms sheltering those who pass underneath.
