February 13-Desserts for Development

I just came back from a fundraiser at the Glen Elm Church of Christ called Desserts for Development. The church was raising funds for two drinking water projects they are sponsoring; one in India and another in Zambia.

Those who attended were treated to three courses of desserts (mostly chocolate) and a lovely jazz trio. In between courses, we were able to bid on silent auction items. I had the winning bid on a Mexican platter which I plan to use tomorrow; I don't think I can look at another sweet dessert. The Turtle Cheesecake nearly did me in!

Janury 12-Regina Cemetery #2

The cemetery is so visually interesting, that I had to go back for a second look. The view above is one of the main roads that splits the cemetary into north and south. The stark trees reminded me of hundred of arms sheltering those who pass underneath.

February 11-Pedestrian mall

On January 5, I took a photo of FW Hill Mall from a pedestrian walkway between the twin towers downtown. Today's photo is of a frost-ladened tree lit by Christmas lights along the Mall. (In the January 5th photo, it is the upper-most tree on the left-hand side.)

Hopefully winter will be over soon.

February 10-Bank window

All around town banks are encouraging people to contribute to their registered retirement savings plan before the March 1st deadline.

Western Canadian Bank hired a painter to create this image on one of their street-side windows. I know my answer would be simply 'no'. I have a few more decades of work to finish before I will be able to answer positively to this question.

February 9-STC Building

On November 4, 2008, the Saskatchewan Transportation Company opened its new Regina terminal.

Located on the corner of Broad Street and Saskatchewan Drive, this large, spacious terminal features a Robin's Doughnut shop. One drawback is the lack of onsite parking at the front. It's crazy trying to find a space to park at Christmas or any other big holiday.

Go to STC's website to read this news release about the new Regina terminal.

February 8-Victoria Park

It was a bit nippy today, but that didn't stop this person from walking through Victoria Park to get to the McCallum Hill towers.

Construction began on Tower I in 1983, followed by Tower II (shown in this picture) in 1992. According to the CBC's walking tour of Regina, both buildings feature an 11 degree angle windows, which makes it look like a wedge was taken out of the corner of each building. Pedways connect both buildings to each other, with Tower II connected to the Canada Life Building via a pedway.

February 7-Enbridge Tank Farm

For several years now, Regina motorists have enjoyed this mural painted on one of the petroleum tanks at the Enbridge Tank Farm in the Queen City.

I'm amazed that this photo turned out; I was driving down the off-ramp to get onto the Ring Road and blindly shot this with the window down. (The other three I took didn't turn out as well.)

For information about the tank farm, go to the Enbridge website.
