February 25-Glokenspiel

It's only chimed a few times in the 10+ years I've lived in Regina, but everyone know where and what the Glokenspiel is about.

When it works, it is supposed to chime every quarter hour. It is supposed to have over 100 songs to choose from from its computerized banks. However, like any computer built in 1985, the software and hardware is a bit out of date and a bit unreliable.

Below is the dedication inscribed on the base of the Glokenspiel:
"These bells are a gift to the City from the citizens of Regina. The project was coordinated by the Regina Multi-cultural Council on behalf of the Multicultural community.

The Regina Multicultural Council is a non-profit organization established for the purpose of promoting and supporting multiculturalism in the City of Regina. The council has a membership of over 65 ethnic groups.

The harmonious chiming of the bells is a symbol of the way in which many groups of different heritages come together to enrich the life of this city."

  1. Strangest Glokenspiel I've ever seen, but it's such a delight to look out.
    Cheers.
